This position performs technical, administrative, and supervisory work in managing the city’s electrical system. This is a safety-sensitive position. The position requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Performs engineering drafting and design work to determine proper materials, project designs, power load, phase balance, and other project specification information.
Makes final decisions regarding construction changes from project blueprints.
Advises and recommends policy to the Director in matters relating to utility administration and operations.
Serves as coordinator of new service line expansions; reviews development plans to ensure compliance with regulations and codes.
Computes load, number of poles required, and materials and equipment needed.
Assigns various activities and job duties; organizes staff and project work schedules; makes or reviews personnel assignments; evaluates personnel.
Trains department personnel in electrical utility ground and line work.
Enforces safety procedures.
Handles citizen inquiries and customer complaints regarding service needs and problems.
Acquires utility electrical easements.
Meets with customers, homeowners, and builders; explains department policies; makes recommendations for changes to blueprints.
Coordinates and schedules work with other utilities.
Prepares work orders and reports.
Responds to after-hours emergencies.
Performs the duties of the Director in his or her absence as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of the procedures, equipment, and tools used in the construction,
maintenance, and repair of electric power lines.
Knowledge of national and state building and construction code standards.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the work and of safety precautions associated with the construction and maintenance of an electrical transmission and distribution system.
Thorough knowledge of basic electrical theory.
Thorough knowledge of relays, circuit boards, SCADA control devices, and generators.
Knowledge of personal computers for use in word processing and electronic communications.
Skill in the interpretation of survey plats and engineering design plans on utility line
Skill in troubleshooting electrical problems.
Skill in the supervision of personnel.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in comprehending, understanding, and interpreting complex and technical information.
