Posting Summary: The University of Virginia Police Department is seeking highly qualified applicants to fill multiple openings for Camera Control Operators. Camera Control Operators provide support to public safety agencies such as police, fire and EMS responding to incidents in and around the University. This position will be expected to independently operate software programs, monitor radio traffic access control systems intrusion detection systems and utilize security camera resources to enhance response to incidents. Camera Control Operators must be able to effectively communicate with public safety agencies, work well under pressure and may be required to testify in court.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, preference will be given to applicants with some college education. Previous work or volunteer experience dealing with individuals from diverse backgrounds is required. Applicants must possess a Valid Drivers License and have the ability to obtain a Virginia Drivers License. Applicants must also be able to successfully complete the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) operator training either before or during employment. The ability to follow specific oral and written instructions and safety procedures, as well as the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is required. Applicants must be able to react appropriately in routine and emergency situations, and have the ability to detect problems and report information to the appropriate personnel. Demonstrated technical savvy and working knowledge of Microsoft office is required. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in safety, security or law enforcement.
