Posting Summary: Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
The Equipment Repair Technician supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University grounds equipment. Performs routine mechanical repair and maintenance of motorized equipment and electrical systems that influence their operating condition and safety in the Landscape department.
While typically assigned to the 7:00am - 3:30pm shift, the position will require some flexibility to meet emergency needs such as snow detail.

Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Must have a minimum of one year experience in general repair of gasoline and/or diesel engines and in general repair of hydraulic systems.
Preferred Specific Experience: Strongly prefer 5+ years of experience.
Required License or Certification: Valid Commercial Driver's License - Class A (ability to obtain VA license within 30 days). Must maintain a valid Virginia Driver's License while employed in this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Working knowledge of effective diagnostic and repair techniques and procedures related to a wide variety of motorized equipment. 2. Considerable skill in the use of hand and power tools and diagnostic test equipment in the maintenance and repair of equipment. 3. Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend technical repair manuals; to perform simple arithmetic, to read gauges and testing devices; to diagnose equipment failures and perform repairs; to perform manual heavy labor and to operate various types of equipment and motorized vehicles. 4. May require shift modification and/or overtime work during snow or emergencies. Ability to work an adjusted schedule as needed to meet deadlines.
